Seeing With Our Father's Eyes

Welcome

Hey…you found me! Good. I was counseled to try changing blog hosts in order to make it simpler for me to navigate things. I definitely needed simpler. I didn’t know how to properly transfer the few posts I had done on the other site…so I pasted and copied each and they are now all showing up with today’s date (oh well). I also wanted to keep the comments you folks posted, so they are now all copied into the 1 comment under each post (oh well again). I know…I know…I am pathetic. Thanks for putting up with me.

I am glad for what binds us together in the loving pursuit of Jesus our Lord. It does me good to hear of your devotion to Him…the things He’s doing and has done for you…the difficulties from which He’s lifted you…the glory you’d like to bring Him if you could. And you are doing it, you know. You are bringing Him glory, even if it’s not as much or as often or as consistently as you’d want it to be. Loving Him is making us better, isn’t it? But maybe you’re having a tough time seeing that in yourself. Will you please take it from those of us who know you…who are able, because of Him, to see such good things in you and to want even more wonderful things for you.  Feel His pleasure in you today. Believe it! Relax in it! Bask in it! Your delight over His delight in you will bless others and us all.

Do you have time to accept this little challenge? Write someone, e-mail, phone or, best of all, visit someone, for the purpose of letting them know that you can see Him in them.

I am being blessed by your faith. I am deeply grateful to you for that. Praise His Name!

  1. Let me just say…I am so glad that you are writing that I do not care what “http://” you write it under, or how you cut and paste previous comments, or ANY of that mess….I just want to read the words that come from your heart!!

Because, you see, I can see Jesus in you…in the way you express your heart, which is clearly a heart for God and from God. In the way you take the time to make sure that people hear a blessing, a good word, a reminder of God’s love for them. In the way you show us the Father at work.

Thank you Doug for writing. Thank you for letting me read it. I am blessed by God through you.

    Ah Sherry,
I am helped by what you wrote…in ways I can’t explain…particularly at this precise moment when I read it. God bless you.
And, thanks for fulfilling your assignment (smile).

  3. Ah…you converted. Good man. It’s good to see all of these bloggers boosting your ego…takes the load off of my responsibilities! 😉 You deserve it…thanks for spreading the love.

HEY LAD…YES, I’VE CONVERTED. AND I’M ALWAYS GLAD TO TAKE THE LOAD OFF YOUR SHOULDERS, I MEAN I BEEN CARRYING YOU YOUR WHOLE LIFE, HEY? JUST KIDDING. I’M STILL PRAYING ABOUT THE HOUSE DEAL. TAKE CARE OF MY REMI. TELL HER POPPA OAKES HAS A GREAT BIG KISS FOR HER.

  4. I needed to be reminded today of God’s delight in me … that he finds pleasure in me. You have a gift of encouragement that I want to learn more about, thank you Doug. Basking in His pleasure …

    PAIGE,
I’M SO GLAD GOD SAYS IT SO OFTEN…IN SO MANY WAYS…HE BEAMS IT FROM THE SUN…HE PAINTS ALL CREATION WITH IT…HE HIDES IT IN SO MANY WONDERFUL PLACES THAT WE CAN’T FAIL TO STUMBLE UPON THIS LOVELY TREASURE AT SOME APPROPRIATE TIME AND SO OFTEN AT JUST THE RIGHT MOMENT. DO YOU SUPPOSE HE WAITS EAGERLY WITH JESUS AND THE SPIRIT AS WE ARE ABOUT TO SEE SOME OLD SCRIPTURE IN A NEW LIGHT AND SAYS SOMETHING LIKE, “WATCH THIS…GET READY FOR A JOY EXPLOSION! WAIT FOR IT! THERE! THERE IT IS! LOOK AT HER SMILE. LOOK AT THE CALM ASSURANCE ON HIS FACE. THEY GOT IT. THEY GET IT. THEY ARE THRILLED WITH OUR LOVE. FOR NOW, AT LEAST, THEY KNOW WE LOVE THEM IN SPITE OF EVERYTHING.” BUT THE GREATEST, MOST CONVINCING, ETERNAL DEMONSTRATION OF HIS LOVE…LOVE, BEYOND WHICH THERE IS NO GREATER…IS CALVARY’S CROSS. WE MUST MEET THERE REGULARLY. HIS LOVE LIBERATES US. YOU ARE ONE OF HIS FREED SPIRITS. I’M SO PLEASED ABOUT THAT. BLESS ON!

  5. It took me a while – but I found you. I have seen Jesus in you – from the first day we met (January 1973) to this day … in the way you respect God’s Word … in the way you appreciate His grace and love … in the way you care for people … in the way you love your children … in the way you adore your g-kids … in the way you long for home … in the way you show me how Jesus was a friend to sinners.

    REX,
WE KEEP COMING TO YOU. WE MAKE NO APOLOGY FOR DOING SO. WE FEEL WE MUST DO IT. WE WANT TO DO IT. WE EAGERLY ANTICIPATE THE DOING OF IT. WE DON’T FEEL AT ALL…NOT AT ALL (DO YOU HEAR ME?) LIKE WE ARE MAKING TOO MUCH OF A MAN.
THAT’S NOT IT. WE KNOW WHO IS LORD. BUT WE KEEP COMING TO YOU FOR THE SAME REASON ZACCHEUS CLIMBED THE TREE…FOR THE PURPOSE THOSE GREEKS HAD IN MIND WHEN THEY BROUGHT THEIR REQUEST TO PHILIP…WE HUNGER FOR ANOTHER GLIMPSE OF JESUS. WE KNOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN WITH HIM. YOUR ENCOUNTERS WITH HIM MAKE YOUR SPIRIT GLOW. AND WE KNOW THAT YOU WILL SHARE HIM WITH US…YOU WILL HELP US KNOW HIM BETTER. SO WE COME GLADLY…SURE ENOUGH, THE SPARK JUMPS AS YOU SPEAK, TEACH, LIVE AND SHARE…AND WE LEAVE WITH BURNING HEARTS. WE WILL BE BACK, MY BROTHER…MY FRIEND.

  6. Doug the old,

aka. my brother-in-law, uncle Doug, poppa Doug, old man! Now I have to figure out how to change your web address on my blog – ugghhh!

Oh well, at least I can take pride in knowing that I starting blogging before you – can’t I?

John – aka, Uncle John, your brother-in-law, grandpa John, not-as-old-as-you man!

    JOHN,
THANKS FOR BEING THERE FOR ME, BRUDDA. YES, YOU PRECEDED IN BLOGGING. (A VERY GOOD BLOG SITE BY THE WAY- http://www.sdchurchofchrist.org/wordpress/) YOU ARE SO MUCH MORE TECHNO THAN I AM. HOWEVER, I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO UPDATE A LINK ON MY BLOGSITE (HA HA). AND IT’S TRUE, YOU’LL NEVER CATCH UP TO ME IN AGE…BUT IF YOU PROMISE NOT TO HOLD MY ADVANCED AGE AGAINST ME, I WON’T MAKE FUN OF YOUR YOUTH AND INEXPERIENCE. WISH WE COULD GO GOLFING AGAIN SOON (THE WEATHER WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE). CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AND YOURS ON THANKSGIVING.

  7. Please take note that I posted my first ever blog comment on your Tag
    posting…..
Don and I love you both!

    NANCY,
THANKS SO MUCH FOR CHECKING IN. YOU DID GREAT ON YOUR FIRST BLOG COMMENT. WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY, I AM VERY SERIOUS ABOUT. I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO BE BLOGGING. IT’S REALLY EASY. IT DOES TAKE SOME TIME, BUT IT’S WORTH IT. YOU HAVE SUCH A HEART FOR GOD. THE WISDOM OF YOUR WORDS COMING AS THEY DO FROM A HEART DEVOTED TO FATHER GOD IS SUCH A BLESSING TO ALL OF US WHO KNOW YOU. I REALLY MEAN THAT. YOU AND DON BOTH HAVE SO MUCH TO OFFER. I JUST FIGURED IT MIGHT BE TOUGH FOR DON TO FIND THE TIME (IT’S PROBABLY TOUGH FOR YOU AS WELL- BUT I WOULD LOVE IT).
I CAN’T WAIT TIL WE GET TOGETHER AND BUFFET. GREAT NEWS FROM SUSIE ABOUT KYLE’S BAR EXAM. PRAISE GOD! WE SURELY LOVE YOU ALL TOO. LATER.

  8. Hey Doug,

Glad you entered the world of blogging. With all of the encouraging emails that you send, blogging is the perfect thing for you. I love reading what y’all have been up to and hearing what is going on in your lives. My parents haven’t figured out how to comment on our blog yet, but maybe they will soon since they have now mastered your blog! God bless you today!

    HI SUSIE,
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY AND FOR YOUR GOOD WORDS. YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A SMILING PRESENCE IN THE LIVES OF ALL THOSE WHO KNOW YOU. WE REJOICED TO LEARN OF KYLE’S GOOD REPORT FROM THE BAR EXAM. WHAT A LOAD LIFTED, HUH? OF COURSE, WE KNEW HE COULD DO IT. WE WILL BE ANXIOUS TO LEARN IN WHAT DIRECTION HIS LAW DEGREE TAKES HIM NOW. HOPE YOUR WORK IS GOING WELL.
WE LOVE YOU TWO…MISS YOU A BUNCH. I THINK WE COULD ALL USE A LITTLE NORRIS LAKE TIME. FEEL HIS PLEASURE IN YOU TODAY!

  9. Doug,

I keep checking all the time…I didn’t realize you moved…maybe that’s why I hadn’t seen a change on your blog in a while. Regardless…glad that Rex changed the link on his site so that I could stay up with your writing…things have got busy around here and so I don’t always have a time to comment like I would like, however, I never miss the opportunity to read and to be blessed by your wisdom and to be encouraged by your love.

I was sitting today, in Mexican church, (allowing my mind to wander as I often do when I get tired of trying to translate everything in my head) – and I was thinking of the passages about how much God delights in us…I imagined him looking at us as a baby that is so cute that everyone wants to focus on him/her more than anything. I don’t know why he delights in us…but I am so glad that he does! Thanks for the reminder and for all you do!

    DENNIS,
I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW BUSY IT MUST GET FOR YOU…DON’T EVER WORRY ABOUT NOT HAVING THE TIME TO LEAVE A COMMENT. I LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU, UNDERSTAND, BUT I DON’T WANT YOU OR ANYONE ELSE TO FEEL PRESSURED.

I, TOO, LOVE THOSE DELIGHT MESSAGES GOD SCATTERS IN THE WORD FOR US TO FIND LIKE UNEXPECTED TREASURE. I WAS RECENTLY CRITICIZED BY A BROTHER FOR FOCUSING (TOO MUCH IN HIS OPINION) ON GOD’S LOVE FOR US IN MY SERMONS. HE SAID, “OKAY, I GET IT. GOD LOVES US. WHAT’S NEXT?” I FEEL SORRY FOR HIM…TRULY. BECAUSE, ACTUALLY, HE DOESN’T “GET IT.” GOD’S LOVE IS SO DEEP AND HIGH…SO WIDE AND LONG…IT’S WAY BEYOND OUR ABILITY TO “GET IT” BUT, MY THE JOY OF TRYING! THANKS FOR WORKING WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL THEME…GOD’S LOVE…AND HELPING TO BREAK DOWN IT’S GLORIOUS LIGHT INTO ALL ITS COLORS AND HUES FOR THE REST OF US TO WONDER OVER. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS.

  10. Great post brother.
    Keep up the great work.

THANKS FOR LOOKING ME UP, PREACHERMAN. THANKS TOO FOR THE LIFTING WORDS. IT REALLY HELPS.
    TAKE CARE.
