Acorns From Oakes

Seeing With Our Father's Eyes

They’re Coming…

It’s Tuesday night…two days before Turkey Day. I just wanted to share something with you…listen up now…”They are coming!” One is traveling from Kentucky right now as I write this. The other is to be here all the way from Oklahoma tomorrow afternoon. I feel something like I felt as a kid on Christmas eve…only better…much better.

The world’s two finest granddaughters, Skylar and Remi are on the way to see Poppa Oakes. They are excited too. I know what is the cause behind every one of their frowns or cries or fussiness. Some people might suggest that it’s because they have gas, or they’re hungry, or just plain tired. Of course that’s not it at all. They miss their Poppa O. But not tomorrow! Tomorrow it will be all better. Tomorrow geography has no power to come between us. Tomorrow I will hold, hug, kiss, crawl, swing, carry, play, show them off and look at them to my heart’s content. They’re coming! Thank God.

 Big Skylar…Little Remi

I hope you get some special family time over this holiday time. I hope your reasons for thanksgiving will come easily to your heart and in great number. But even if you can’t be with your family…or if you have no family to go home to…you are still God’s Beloved. You will always belong at home with Him.

Hey…and I wouldn’t want you to forget that I love you too. Happy Thanksgiving, gals and guys!

  1. I am excited for the g-babies … and for you. I understand how they feel – I have been a little fussy when I miss you. My love to you … to all of yours. I love you, friend. Rex

p.s. You really should spend some time teaching those girls to say, “Papa Rex” – just in case I get to see them before they are driving.

    REX,
I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO TEACH MY GRANDDAUGHTERS TO CALL YOU PAPA REX…BUT I JUST CAN’T RISK HAVING THE TERM PAPA ASSOCIATED WITH SUCH A NOSE AS YOURS. POPPA OAKES WILL HAVE TO DO. BUT I WOULD SURE LOVE FOR YOU TO MEET THEM, MY BROTHER. ALL MY KIDS HAVE BEEN SO BLESSED BY YOU…IT WOULD BE THE SAME FOR SKY AND REMI. I LOVE YOU, BROTHER.

  2. I am smiling…my heart is smiling…I am feeling the warmth of your love for those babies (big and small) across all these miles!! May God bless your time with your family…beyond all you can imagine!

Thank you for sharing your absolute joy!! Be sure and tell us all about it, in the next few days!
    Happy Thanksgiving Doug.
ps…one thing I’m thankful for is this chance to get to know you just a little! 🙂

    SHERRY,
GOD DID BLESS OUR TIME TOGETHER. WE GOT TO SPEND SOME TIME SINGING SONGS TO GOD ONE EVENING. IT WAS…WOW! MY HEART SOARED. REMI AND SKYLAR KEPT US ENTERTAINED AND OCCUPIED. IT WAS JUST AWESOME. WHEN I LOOK AT OUR FAMILY I FEEL LIKE I AM IN A BEAUTIFUL DREAM. BY GOD’S GRACE THEY ARE ALL HIS. IF ANYONE HAD TOLD ME WHEN I WAS A KID, IT COULD BE SO WONDERFUL, I WOULDN’T HAVE BELIEVED THEM…NOT AT ALL. BUT IT’S BETTER THAN ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DREAMED. I WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF REASONS TO PRAISE GOD.
AND SHERRY, I AM GLAD TO BE GETTING TO KNOW YOU THROUGH YOUR WRITINGS AS WELL. YOU, LIKE MARY OF BETHANY, HAVE CHOSEN THE GOOD PART WHICH SHALL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU.

  3. Doug – enjoy those grandbabies –

I hope that you have a great day…and on this day, I want to say thank you for the blessing you are to me in my life.

    Thanks,

    Dennis

I REALLY DID ENJOY THEM, DENNIS. MY TIME WITH THEM DOES GOOD THINGS FOR MY HEART. MOSTLY, IT MAKES ME THANK GOD FOR ALL HIS GOODNESS TOWARDS US…AND…IT MAKES ME WANT TO SO LIVE THAT MY LIFE WILL BE A SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL OUR FAMILY AND TO ALL WE COME IN CONTACT WITH. I’M GLAD WE ARE ON THIS JOURNEY TOGETHER IN LIFE…GLAD FOR WHY YOU AND YOURS ARE IN MEXICO…I KNOW PEOPLE THERE ARE DETECTING A FAMILIAR AROMA AS THEY WATCH YOUR LIFE…THEY ARE NOTING THAT YOU HAVE BEEN WITH HIM. I AM PRAYING FOR YOU.

I’m so glad you have your granddaughters (and their parents, of course) with you for a few days. I know the Oakes home will be filled with joy and excitement. God is smiling at the pleasure this family reunion is bringing all of you. May HE bring you all back together again soon.

    NANCY,
IT WAS TRULY GREAT TO HAVE ALL OUR FAMILY HOME. IT WASN’T LONG ENOUGH…BUT, OF COURSE, IT NEVER WILL BE, NO MATTER HOW LONG WE HAVE. I’M JUST GLAD FOR WHAT BINDS US TOGETHER ACROSS MILES, ACROSS TIME, AND INTO ETERNITY…OUR BLESSED SAVIOR! THANKS FOR STOPPING BY AND LEAVING A WORD. WE ARE REJOICING WITH YOU OVER YOUR GOOD NEWS.

  5. Poppa O,

I had a great time at your house this Thanksgiving. 6 1/2 months was too long in between visits. I can’t wait to see you in a couple of weeks.

    Love you Poppa,

    Remi Jean

    My precious Remi,
Six and a half months away from you is an eternity. I still have some of your spit up on my blue jeans. I told Oma she couldn’t wash them.
How I love you. I got lost several times in your beautiful blue eyes. I am looking forward to December 13th…my next planned visit with you.
Until then…I am thinking of you…praying for you…and missing you always.
    Love, Your Poppa O.
