We’ve been waiting for you for nine months plus. Your big sister, Sklar, has been talking about you being inside her momma’s belly for so long. She could hardly wait to see you and give you her own special Skylar welcome. Your loving momma bravely fought the good fight for you to get you here…safe and sound. Your proud daddy fairly beamed with joy at the sight of you…couldn’t take his eyes off you…couldn’t stop talking about you. Your Oma and Poppa Oakes were so thankful to be present for your big day…October 4th…your debut into this world…and into our family. Your great Father God creatively, carefully, masterfully knit you together during the months of waiting. He did an awesome job with all 21 inches, 8 pounds, three ounces of you…for you are one handsome lad, if I do say so myself. With your safe arrival, Father God, spoke a very gracious “Yes” to all of our prayers since the day we found out that you were on your way to us.
Dear Trapper Price McCarley, more than any other achievement…more than any other experience…more than any other gift…we pray for you a lifelong enjoyment of…a deep appreciation for…a real reverence and undying love for…a continual dependence on…a diligent service to…and a true reflection of…your loving Father God to Whom we owe everything, including and especially, just now, the gift of you. Know for sure that wherever you go you carry our hearts with you. Know for sure that when you hurt we do too. Know that every joy you experience will be shared by us…every victory that comes to you will be applauded by us…every failure will be met with calm assurances that there will be another and a better day. When you feel weak, we will lend you our strength. When you feel lost, we will come and find you. We will do anything for you, except leave you. We will never leave you…not even when miles and time come between us. For you we have the noblest of hopes…the best of dreams…and a constant love. And if there come those times in your life when you feel you are not meeting those wonderful and terrible things called expectations, both your own and those of others, remember this…please, always remember this…no matter what you may or may not accomplish…no matter who else stands with you or against you…no matter how difficult it may be, at times, to take even one more step…OUR HEARTS ARE YOURS NOW AND ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT, for no other reason than that God gave you to us. Guess what? We accept! Welcome home, little one.
P.S. I can’t wait for you to meet the other two “world’s most beautiful and talented” granddaughters (your cousins, Remi and Adi). Of course you already know the one and only amazing Sky-baby, your sister. She loves you so. I miss you already, Trapper and Sklar, but that’s how it is with grandparents!
Father God, You know that I never expected…never deserved…to live to see such amazing blessings within the family you gave me. But…thank you, Lord…thank you very much! All this…and heaven with you and Jesus too??!!! How shall my heart contain it?
