Acorns From Oakes

Seeing With Our Father's Eyes

Hello, Trapper!

We’ve been waiting for you for nine months plus. Your big sister, Sklar, has been talking about you being inside her momma’s belly for so long. She could hardly wait to see you and give you her own special Skylar welcome. Your loving momma bravely fought the good fight for you to get you here…safe and sound. Your proud daddy fairly beamed with joy at the sight of you…couldn’t take his eyes off you…couldn’t stop talking about you. Your Oma and Poppa Oakes were so thankful to be present for your big day…October 4th…your debut into this world…and into our family. Your great Father God creatively, carefully, masterfully knit you together during the months of waiting. He did an awesome job with all 21 inches, 8 pounds, three ounces of you…for you are one handsome lad, if I do say so myself. With your safe arrival, Father God, spoke a very gracious “Yes” to all of our prayers since the day we found out that you were on your way to us.

Dear Trapper Price McCarley, more than any other achievement…more than any other experience…more than any other gift…we pray for you a lifelong enjoyment of…a deep appreciation for…a real reverence and undying love for…a continual dependence on…a diligent service to…and a true reflection of…your loving Father God to Whom we owe everything, including and especially, just now, the gift of you. Know for sure that wherever you go you carry our hearts with you. Know for sure that when you hurt we do too. Know that every joy you experience will be shared by us…every victory that comes to you will be applauded by us…every failure will be met with calm assurances that there will be another and a better day. When you feel weak, we will lend you our strength. When you feel lost, we will come and find you. We will do anything for you, except leave you. We will never leave you…not even when miles and time come between us. For you we have the noblest of hopes…the best of dreams…and a constant love. And if there come those times in your life when you feel you are not meeting those wonderful and terrible things called expectations, both your own and those of others, remember this…please, always remember this…no matter what you may or may not accomplish…no matter who else stands with you or against you…no matter how difficult it may be, at times, to take even one more step…OUR HEARTS ARE YOURS NOW AND ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT, for no other reason than that God gave you to us. Guess what? We accept! Welcome home, little one.

P.S. I can’t wait for you to meet the other two “world’s most beautiful and talented” granddaughters (your cousins, Remi and Adi). Of course you already know the one and only amazing Sky-baby, your sister. She loves you so. I miss you already, Trapper and Sklar, but that’s how it is with grandparents!

Father God, You know that I never expected…never deserved…to live to see such amazing blessings within the family you gave me. But…thank you, Lord…thank you very much! All this…and heaven with you and Jesus too??!!! How shall my heart contain it?

We were so thrilled to see Trapper’s picture and hear of his safe arrival. Congratulations to all!
What a way you have with words, Doug! I hope you are keeping a copy of your blogs about your grandbabies for their baby books. They will be a special keepsake from the heart of their Poppa Oakes!

    MELANIE,
AS I LOOK BACK ACROSS THE YEARS AND PEOPLE THAT GOD HAS BLESSED ME TO KNOW IN THIS LIFE, YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE THAT I REMEMBER WITH DEEP GRATITUDE TO GOD. ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THAT, IS THE GENUINESS OF YOUR LOVE FOR OUR LORD THAT ALWAYS SHOWED ITSELF IN THE WORDS YOU CHOSE (SO ENCOURAGING TO OTHERS) AND THE WAYS YOU SERVED (WITHOUT FANFARE OR APPLAUSE). AND I KNOW I ONLY SAW SOME OF THE EVIDENCE OF YOUR DEVOTION TO HIM…ENOUGH TO KNOW YOU WERE/ARE FOR REAL. OF COURSE, ALLEN KNEW THAT…SHARED THAT WITH ME REPEATEDLY. THANK YOU, AGAIN, FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT YOU OFFER ME AND OTHERS IN THE LORD. THANK YOU FOR SHARING OUR JOY OVER TRAPPER. JENNY DID MAKE A COPY OF THE BLOG FOR THE BABY’S SCRAPBOOK…AND IN DOING SO SHE ALSO BLESSED THIS POPPA’S HEART. MY LOVE TO ALL OF YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY.

  3. Congratulations on another beautiful grandbaby. We are so glad that all went well and Jenny is doing well. Daniel too. Thanks for posting the picture so we can all sahre in you and Vicki’s joy.

    REBA,
FOR SOME REASON YOUR COMMENT GOT PUT INTO A SPAM FILE. BUT YOU ARE NOT SPAM!!!! THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS SHARING OUR JOY. HOW I LOVE YOU AND YOURS. GOD BLESS. D

  4. I love your heart Doug! What a beautiful statement to your grandson. If every child could have that sort of love expressed, no telling how much better the world would be!

I pray that God will hover over you and your family…smoothing and straightening your paths. May God give you the chance to express this sort of love to all your grandbabies for many years to come. It will be so good for their hearts…they will see Jesus in you…and understand the love of the Father just a little bit better.

    Welcome to the world Trapper!

    SHERRY,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WORDS. IT IS HUMBLING TO ME TO READ YOUR KIND WORDS. BUT IT IS VERY ENCOURAGING TO ME AS WELL. THANK YOU SINCERELY. LIKE YOU, I WISH THAT EVERY CHILD COULD HAVE A RICH, CONTINUING EXPERIENCE OF HOW SPECIAL THEY ARE TO THOSE CLOSEST TO THEM…TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE(S) DELIGHTS IN THEM, CHERISHES THEM, SACRIFICES FOR THEM, WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR THEM, INCLUDING BEING WITH THEM TO HOLD THEM…TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM, ETC. I KNOW THAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE RECEIVING THAT KIND OF HERITAGE FROM YOU. IT’S GOOD, GOOD STUFF. MAY IT BE USED OF GOD TO BRING THEM EVER CLOSER TO HIM WITH AN UNDYING LOVE. MAY FATHER GOD ALWAYS BE YOUR HOME.

  5. I love the words that you write. I especially love that Trapper is going to grow up knowing God and knowing that he is loved by God.

I want him to have this letter close to him so that the moment he starts to doubt, the moment he starts to wonder, he can read your words and know that he is accepted … and never alone.

The heart that I read in your words tells me that you do not say those words lightly. It is obvious that Trapper … as well as all of us who cross your path … can approach you with confidence knowing we will be shown the love of Jesus.

    PAIGE,
I FEEL THIS CONFIDENCE WHERE YOU ARE CONCERNED…I’M NOT SO SURE ABOUT ME…BUT I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE HOLDING OPEN THE DOOR FOR PRECIOUS PEOPLE YOU MEET…YOU KEEP A LIGHT BURNING FOR THEM…YOU BELIEVE FOR THEM UNTIL THEY ARE ABLE TO BELIEVE FOR THEMSELVES…AND YOU DO THIS BECAUSE YOU CARE LIKE JESUS DOES. YOUR WORDS HERE HAVE BLESSED ME AGAIN…I WISH ALL MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN COULD SPEND TIME WITH YOU AND YOUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS AT THE OPEN CHURCH…BECAUSE I KNOW THEY WOULD LOVE JESUS MORE BECAUSE OF YOU. THAT IS A GREAT GIFT YOU OFFER IN HIS NAME. BLESS YOU.
